I think shopping is Singaporean’s favorite pastime. It could be in Singapore, or even when they come to Malaysia. Since they like shopping so much, Singapore has great shopping centers everywhere in the island. The great thing about shopping in Singapore is that there are a wide variety of choices under one roof. Shops in Malaysia have the advantage when it comes to lower prices. But there are still good bargains to be found in holiday season sales.
Singapore’s main shopping district is at Orchard Road. You can find almost anything you can imagine in the shopping centers here. There is this place called The Forum; which has the biggest Toys ‘R Us in Singapore, kids love it. Also, I like to drop by The Hereen as it has the most gargantuan HMV outlet in Singapore. The HMV spans four floors; each has quality CDs and stuff! I can spend hours browsing there, finding new CDs for my collection.
Electronic goods are sold at duty-free prices in Singapore, and there are many great deals around. Many items are available immediately from their global launch in Japan or Europe. Best places to shop for electronics in Singapore are at Sim Lim Square, Lucky Plaza and Far East Plaza. You can find everything from digital cameras, DV camcorders, DVDs, cell phones and even GPS equipment. Techie types are really spoilt for choice here.
At the ground floor of Wheelock Place, there is this HUGE Border Books and Music outlet. I think it is one of the biggest bookstores in Southeast Asia. This place really has a massive collection of books, magazines and CDs. An equally huge bookstore is the Kinokuniya in Ngee Ann City.
Other popular places along Orchard Road where you can shop are Centerpoint, Shaw House, Wisma Atria, Paragon and Tangs. And that’s not even a list of all of the shopping centers there. So, don’t worry about places to shop and choices available, it’s there.
